Sensational poets and spoken word artists Andrea Gibson and Sarah Kay are bringing their signature show to Paradise Rock Club!

Andrea Gibson was born in 1975 in Calais (Maine) and is a poet who focuses on gender norms, politics, social reform, and the struggles Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Queer (LGBTQ) people face in today's society. Her powerful readings on war, class, gender, bullying, white privilege, sexuality, love, and spirituality have led to sold out shows at venues across the country. She’s the first poet to win the Women of the World Poetry Slam and her work has been featured on BBC, Air America, C-SPAN, and Free Speech TV. She cites Sonya Renee, Rachel McKibbens, Derrick Brown, Anis Mojgani, Patricia Smith, and Mary Oliver as her main influences and she’s written 5 books; Trees that Grow in Cemeteries, Yellow Bird, What the Yarn Knows of Sweaters, Pole Dancing to Gospel Hymns, and The Madness Vase. She’s also released 6 albums featuring her poetry accompanied by piano, global drums, dobro, violin and other instruments. She’s also received many other accolades such as 4th place at the 2004 National Poetry Slam and 3rd place at both the 2006 and 2007 Individual World Poetry Slam. She currently resides in Boulder (Colorado) and tours universities across the country.
