Animals as Leaders, Washington D.C's sensational progressive metal artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Paradise Rock Club!
Animals as Leaders was formed in Washington, D.C. in 2008 and currently consists of Tosin Abasi (guitar), Javier Reyes (guitar and bass), and Matt Garstka (drums). Their musical style is best described as a blend of progressive metal (a fusion of heavy metal and progressive rock that combines the loud aggression and amplified guitar driven sound of the former with the more experimental, cerebral or pseudo classical compositions of the latter), djent (a style of progressive metal named for an onomatopoeia for the distinctive high gain, distorted, palm muted, low pitch guitar sound first employed by bands Meshuggah and SikTh), heavy metal (a sub genre of rock that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s and features a thick, massive sound, characterized by highly amplified distortion, extended guitar solos, emphatic beats, and overall loudness). They've had a stellar career with 3 studio albums (3 of which were top 7 hits on Billboard's Hard Rock Albums chart), 1 single, 1 live album, 6 music videos, and they've toured with many renowned bands such as Decapitated, Vital Remains, Carnifex, The Faceless, All Shall Perish, The Red Chord, Cephalic Carnage, Veil of Maya, Decrepit Birth, Circa Survive, and Dredg.
