Bahamas, Canada's sensational indie folk artist is bringing his signature sounds to the Paradise Rock Club!
Bahamas is the solo project of Toronto-based singer, songwriter, and guitarist Afie Jurvanen. He began his musical journey by playing with fellow Canadian artists Feist and Howie Beck. It wasn't long before he launched his solo career with a musical style that's best described as a blend of indie folk (a style that arose in the 1990s - among musicians from indie rock scenes influenced by folk music - and is characterized by a blend of acoustic guitar melodies of traditional folk music with contemporary instrumentation), indie pop (a sub genre of alternative/indie rock originating in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s and differing from indie rock to the extent that it’s more melodic, less abrasive, and relatively angst free). He released his debut album (Pink Strat) in 2009 and it was nominated for a Juno Award in the Roots and Traditional Album of the Year – Solo category. He kept honing his craft and his breakthrough came in 2015 with his third album (Bahamas Is Afie) winning a Juno Award (for Adult Alternative Album of the Year). He's had a stellar career with 4 studio albums, 6 singles, and he's collaborated with The Lumineers, Jack Johnson, The Weather Station, and many other renowned bands/artists.
Don't miss your chance to see the contemplative solo project of guitarist and former Feist and Howie Beck sideman Afie Jurvanen!
