Betty Who, Australia’s sensational synth pop artist is bringing her signature sounds to the Paradise Rock Club!
Betty Who (birth name Jessica Anne Newham) was born in Sydney (Australia) in 1991 and is a singer, songwriter, and multi instrumentalist. She began her musical journey by learning to play the cello when she was 4 years old. By the time she was a teenager, she was writing and performing her own songs. Her musical style can be best described as a blend of synth pop (a subgenre of new wave music that rose to prominence in the late 1970s and features the synthesizer as the dominant musical instrument), power pop (a style that draws its inspiration from 1960s British and American rock music and typically incorporates a combination of musical devices such as strong melodies, clear vocals and crisp vocal harmonies, economical arrangements, and prominent guitar riffs), and indie pop (a subgenre of alternative/indie rock originating in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s and differing from indie rock to the extent that it’s more melodic, less abrasive, and relatively angst free). Her breakthrough came in 2016 with her cover of Donna Lewis' "I Love You Always Forever. She’s had a stellar career with 2 studio albums, 2 extended plays, 6 singles, and she’s won a NewNowNext Awards for Best New Musician.
