Sensational avant-garde metal and drone metal bands Boris and Earth are bringing their electrifying sounds to Paradise Rock Club!
Boris is an avant-garde metal (aka experimental metal) band that was formed in Tokyo in 1992 and currently consists of Atsuo Mizuno (drums/backing vocals), Wata (electric guitar, keyboards, lead vocals), and Takeshi Ohtani (bass guitar, electric guitar, lead vocals). The band takes its name after a song from Bullhead (the 3rd album by American sludge metal band the Melvins) and band members make it a point to avoid being pigeon-holed or be heavily associated with any musical genre. Atsuo said in an interview, “Having some kind of preconceived message or theme is very boring to me. It becomes a crutch. Just say what you want to say.” Their fans consider Boris to be part of the metal genre and although the band denies its place in it, it has come to accept the label. Boris has numerous and eclectic influences such as Sleep, Nick Cave, Nick Drake, Venom, the Melvins, and they’ve had a stellar career with 23 studio albums, 5 live albums, 5 video albums, and 13 EPs. They’re also a relentless touring machine and have had the privilege of being the opening act for Nine Inch Nails’ Lights in the Sky tour in 2008.
