Calpurnia, Canada's sensational indie rock artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Paradise Rock Club!
The band was formed in Vancouver in 2017 by Finn Wolfhard (vocals and guitars), Malcolm Craig (drums), Ayla Tesler-Mabe (vocals and guitars), and Jack Anderson (bass). Their musical style is best described as a blend of indie rock (a genre of alternative rock that originated in the United States and the United Kingdom in the 1980s, encapsulating the genres chamber pop, indie pop, lo fi, math rock, neo psychedelia, post punk revival, sadcore, and shoegaze) and garage punk (a genre - originating in the indie rock underground between the late 1980s and early 1990s - that combines punk rock and garage rock and draws heavily from stripped down 1970s punk rock and Detroit proto punk). Even though they're a teenage band, they have a much older sound and they cite the Beatles as their biggest influence. Ayla said in an interview, "Music before more so than now, didn’t lose that desire to express and evoke emotion in the listener. There’s something very raw in music like that. That’s a sound that we want to have in our music. But it’s also just what we listen to and we emulate that, and that’s probably why we sound a little different to some of the modern music coming out now.” They've released 1 extended play and 6 singles.
