Chon, California’s sensational progressive rock artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Paradise Rock Club!
Chon was formed in San Diego in 2008 and currently consists of Mario Camarena (guitar), Nathan Camarena (drums and percussion), Erick Hansel (guitar and vocals), and touring member Esiah Camarena (bass guitar). The band started out as Mario and Erick writing music together and decided they wanted to perform. Mario said in an interview, “So I taught my little brother how to play drums and my other little brother how to play bass - and we played a bunch of shows.” Their musical style is best described as a blend of progressive rock (a broad subgenre of rock music that grew out of psychedelic bands who abandoned standard traditions in favour of instrumentation and compositional techniques more frequently associated with jazz, folk or classical music), math rock (a subgenre of indie rock characterized by complex, atypical rhythmic structures, counterpoint, odd time signatures, angular melodies, and extended, often dissonant, chords), and progressive metal (a fusion of heavy metal and progressive rock that combines the loud aggression and amplified guitar driven sound of the former with the more experimental, cerebral or pseudo classical compositions of the latter). They’ve had a stellar career with 1 demo album, 2 extended plays, and 2 studio albums.
