Denzel R. Curry was born in 1995 and started honing his craft in school by writing poetry and taking part in rap battles. In 2011 he released his first mixtape (King Remembered Underground Tape 1991–1995) and it got the attention of hip-hop group Raider Klan of which he became a member. Two years later he decided to leave the group and start his solo career. His eponymous debut album (Nostalgic 64) received positive reviews and was declared “one of the best rap projects to come out of Miami in 2013” by the newspaper Miami New Times.
