Sensational funk and blues bands Galactic and Southern Avenue are bringing their signature sounds to the Paradise Rock Club!
Galactic were formed in New Orleans (Louisiana) in 1994 (under the moniker Galactic Prophylactic) and they've been through a few line-up changes since then. The band currently consists of guitarist Jeff Raines, bassist Robert Mercurio, drummer Stanton Moore, Hammond organist Rich Vogel, saxophonist Ben Ellman, and touring members Corey Henry (trombone and vocals) along with Erica Falls (vocals). They were influenced by many genres such as hip hop, electronic, world music, rock, blues and jazz. They were inspired by the artists in the New Orleans funk scene such as The Meters, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and Professor Longhair. Their musical style started off as funk, but over the years it evolved to a contemporary blend of hip hop, electronica, fusion, and jazz. The band’s also renowned for inviting other New Orleans’ musicians to perform with them. They’ve also toured with Live, Counting Crows, the Allman Brothers Band, The Roots, Fusebox Funk, Widespread Panic, B.B. King, Mike Doughty (formerly of Soul Coughing), Gift of Gab (of Blackalicious), and Jurassic 5. They’ve had a stellar career with 11 studio albums, 2 live albums, and their music's also been featured on the soundtrack of the video game Infamous 2
