Geoff Tate, Washington’s sensational progressive metal artist is bringing his signature sounds to the Paradise Rock Club!
Geoff Tate (birth name Jeffrey Wayne Tate) was born in Stuttgart (West Germany) in 1959 and is a singer and musician. He was born to German American parents and they moved to Tacoma (Washington) shortly after his birth. He began his musical journey in 1982 as member a band called Babylon and went on to become the lead singer of progressive metal band Queensrÿche. He left the band in 2012, released a solo album, and formed his own band, Operation: Mindcrime. Named after the 1988 Queensrÿche album, the band’s musical style can be best described as a blend of alternative metal (a genre that infuses heavy metal with influences from alternative rock and other genres not normally associated with metal), and progressive metal (a fusion genre melding heavy metal and progressive rock which combines the loud aggression and amplified guitar driven sound of the former with the more experimental, cerebral or pseudo classical compositions of the latter). He said in an interview, “One of the things that I think I became very conscious of was the fact that now that I really don’t have the name Queensrÿche to adhere to, I’m a little bit more open and free to create the kind of music that I want to write and be presenting.”
