Girlpool, California’s sensational indie rock artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Paradise Rock Club!
Girlpool was formed in Los Angeles in 2013 and is a duo consisting of Cleo Tucker (guitar and vocals) and Harmony Tividad (bass and vocals). They began their musical journey by starting a band (named Dearest) with 3 other friends. It wasn’t long before they were collaborating together as just a duo and they named themselves named themselves after a chapter in Kurt Vonnegut’s 4th novel, Cat’s Cradle. Harmony said in an interview, “Before Girlpool, we would try to make songs that we thought were ‘good,’ or whatever. But when we talked about Girlpool, it came from a place of wanting to be as sincere as possible. We wanted to make something that was transparent and real to both of us. We just wanted to be ourselves.” Their musical style is best described as a blend of indie rock (a genre of alternative rock that originated in the United States and the United Kingdom in the 1980s, encapsulating the genres chamber pop, indie pop, lo fi, math rock, neo psychedelia, post punk revival, sadcore, and shoegazing) and folk punk (a fusion of folk music and punk rock that was popularized in the early 1980s by The Pogues in Britain, and by Violent Femmes in the United States). They’ve had a stellar career with 2 studio albums, 1 extended play, and 1 single.
