The band was formed in 1996 when identical twin brothers, Joel and Benji Madden, recruited some of their high school classmates after being inspired by a Beastie Boys tour. Their musical style blends energetic elements from '70s punk with sentimental ballads of mainstream rock. They’ve had a stellar career with 5 studio albums, 2 live albums, 2 EPs, 20 singles, 17 music videos and 3 music DVDs. Their 2002 album (The Young and the Hopeless) hit #7 on the US Billboard 200 chart and was certified Platinum in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and England.
