Guided by Voices, Ohio’s sensational indie rock artists are bringing their signature sounds to Paradise Rock Club!
Guided by Voices (often abbreviated as GBV) was formed in Dayton (Ohio) in 1983 by vocalist and highly prolific songwriter Robert Pollard. The band’s been through various line-up changes since then with Robert as the only constant member. Currently the band also consists of Kevin March (drums), Bobby Bare (guitar), Nick Mitchell (guitar), and Mark Shue (bass). They take their musical influence from a variety of genres such as post-British Invasion garage rock, psychedelic rock, progressive rock, punk rock and post-punk. They began their career as a bar band working the local scene but soon moved toward a studio-only orientation. Their first few releases (Devil Between My Toes, Sandbox, Self-Inflicted Aerial Nostalgia, and Same Place The Fly Got Smashed) were self-financed and didn’t get much attention. That changed with their 1992 album (Propeller) gaining recognition outside of their hometown. The band soon became renowned for its prolific output, with a seemingly endless stream of releases. They’ve had a stellar career with 23 studio albums, 1 live album, 6 compilation albums, 17 EPs and 39 singles. They’ve also featured on soundtracks of hit TV shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Scrubs. The band went on hiatus in 2004 and re-united 6 years later.
