Hiatus Kaiyote

Hiatus Kaiyote, Australia’s sensational future soul artists, are bringing their signature sounds to Paradise Rock Club!

The band was formed in Melbourne in 2011 and is composed of Naomi ‘Nai Palm’ Saalfield (vocals, guitar), Paul Bender (bass), Simon Mavin (keyboards), and Perrin Moss (drums, percussion). In an interview, Naomi explained the band’s name by saying, "Well basically, Kaiyote is not a word. It’s a made up word, but it kind of sounds like peyote and coyote – it’s a word that involved the listener’s creativity as to how they perceive it. A hiatus is essentially a pause, it’s a moment in time. So, to me, a hiatus is taking a pause in your life to take in your surroundings, have a full panoramic view of your experiences and absorbing, and kaiyote is expressing them in a way involves the listeners creativity". They released their debut album (Tawk Tomahawk) in 2012 and one of its tracks (Nakamarra, featuring rapper Q-Tip) was nominated for a 2013 Grammy Award in the Best R&B; Performance category. Their single Breathing Underwater from their second album (Choose Your Weapon) was also nominated for the same award in 2015.

Don’t miss your chance to these artists blend neo-soul and jazz-funk to create something extraordinary!
