Wayne Kramer, legendary guitarist of protopunk band MC5 is playing their 1968 debut (Kick Out The Jams) at the Paradise Rock Club!
MC5 was formed in Detroit in 1964 by vocalist Rob Tyner, guitarists Fred "Sonic" Smith and Wayne Kramer, bassist Pat Burrows, and drummer Bob Gaspar. Over the next 8 years, they made a name for themselves with a loud, energetic musical style that blended anti-establishment lyrics with elements of garage rock, hard rock, blues rock, and psychedelic rock. They're widely regarded as the innovators of American punk rock music. Wayne is taking the stage to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their seminal record (Kick Out The Jams) released during the political and cultural turmoil of 1968. He said in an interview, "Today, there is a corrupt regime in power, an endless war thousands of miles away, and uncontrollable violence wracking our country. It's becoming less and less clear if we're talking about 1968 or 2018. I'm now compelled to share this music I created with my brothers 50 years ago. My goal is that the audience leaves these concerts fueled by the positive and unifying power of rock music." While Wayne is the only MC5 member to perform, he'll be joined by an renowned musicians such as Soundgarden's Kim Thayil (guitar), Fugazi's Brendan Canty (drums), Dug Pinnick of King's X (bass), and Zen Guerrilla's Marcus Durant (lead vocals).
