Kimbra Lee Johnson was born in Hamilton (New Zealand) in 1990 and is a singer, guitarist, actress, and model. Her musical style is best described as a blend of indie rock (a genre of alternative rock that originated in the United States and the United Kingdom in the 1980s, encapsulating the genres chamber pop, indie pop, lo fi, math rock, neo psychedelia, post punk revival, sadcore, and shoegaze), rhythm and blues, jazz, and pop. She cites Daniel Johns, Prince, Rufus Wainwright, Guided by Voices, Imogen Heap, Mike Patton, Michael Jackson, Minnie Riperton, and Stevie Wonder as her main influences. Her breakthrough came when she collaborated with fellow indie artist Gotye on his 2011 single, Somebody That I Used To Know. She went on to have a stellar career with 2 studio albums (both of which were top 5 hits in Australia and New Zealand),10 singles, 8 music videos, and she's collaborated with many renowned artists such as Mark Foster, A-Trak, As Tall As Lions, Miami Horror, John Legend, Lorde, Kimbra, Brooke Fraser, Electric Wire Hustle, Great Danes, SLOWOLF, Big Black Delta, What So Not, and Fyfe. Her latest album (Primal Heart) comes out on 19th January 2018.
