Laura Beatrice Marling was born in Berkshire (England) in 1990 and is a singer, songwriter, and musician. She was introduced to folk music by her father (who ran a recording studio) and she began her musical journey by playing guitar an early age. Her musical style can be best described as a blend of folk rock (a style that arose in the United States and the United Kingdom around the mid 1960s, pioneered by the Los Angeles band the Byrds, who began playing traditional folk music and songs by Bob Dylan with rock instrumentation, in a style heavily influenced by the Beatles and other British bands) and indie folk (a style that blends the acoustic guitar melodies of traditional folk music with contemporary instrumentation). She went on to have a stellar career with 6 studio albums, 1 live album, 6 extended plays, and 16 singles. 3 of her albums have been certified Gold in the UK and she’s been a guest artist on tracks by Noah and the Whale, Mystery Jets, Johnny Flynn, Eddie Berman, and Gill Landry. She’s received many accolades including a Brit Award (for Best British Female), a NME Award (for Best Solo Artist), and she’s also been nominated for 3 Mercury Music Prizes.
