Lil Xan (birth name Diego Leanos) was born in Redlands (California) in 1996 and is a rapper. While his musical style can be broadly classified as hip hop, it's best described as a blend of trap (a sub genre of Southern hip hop that originated in the 1990s and is characterized by ominous lyrics, heavy kick drums from a Roland TR 808 synthesizer, double time division hi hats, and layered synthesizers), cloud rap (a form of hip hop whose distinguishing features include ethereal, dreamlike beats - which often use wordless vocal samples, wherein singers harmonize or hold long notes, to produce a majestic effect - and abstracted, sometimes deliberately absurd, lyrics), and emo hip hop (a sub genre of hip hop - also known as emo rap or emo trap or sad rap - that fuses beats common in hip hop music, and more specifically trap music, with lyrical themes, vocals, and musicianship common in emo music, along with elements of other closely associated genres like indie rock and nu metal).
