Mitski

1st November 2016 - Tuesday 21:00

Mitski, Japan’s sensational indie rock and alternative music artist is bringing her signature sounds to Gramercy Theater!

Mitski Miyawaki was born in Japan in 1990 and traveled frequently as a child due to her family moving from one Army base to another from Japan to the Democratic Republic of Congo to Malaysia to China. They finally settled in Turkey when she was 18 and that’s when she began to develop a burgeoning interest in writing songs. She moved to New York and enrolled in a film course at Hunter College (The City University of New York) but transferred to State University of New York's (SUNY) Conservatory of Music to study music instead. While studying there she self-released her first 2 albums; Lush (2012) and Retired from Sad, New Career in Business (2013). They were her junior and senior school projects respectively and the latter was a very complex and ambitious undertaking that used a 60 piece orchestra. Her hard work paid off with her getting a record deal and her third album (Bury Me at Makeout Creek) came out in 2014. It was highly successful and critically acclaimed by magazines such as Pitchfork Media, NME, Rolling Stone, and The New York Times. She released an extended play (Mitski - Audiotree Live) in 2015 and her latest album (Puberty 2) came out in June 2016.

Don’t miss your chance to see this artist with her lyrically profound storytelling through music!
