Monsieur Periné, Colombia’s sensational multi genre artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Paradise Rock Club!
Monsieur Periné was formed in Bogota (Colombia) in 2007 and it currently consists of Catalina Catalina García (voice), Santiago Sarabia (strings), Nicolás Junca (guitar), Adinda Meertins (double bass), Miguel Guerra (percussion), Darwin Paéz (drums), Jairo Alfonso (saxophone and clarinet), and Abstin Caviedes (trombone and bugle). Their musical style can be best described as a blend of pop, jazz, swing, bolero (a genre of slow tempo Latin music and its associated dance, Gypsy jazz (a style of jazz music often said to have been started by guitarist Jean "Django" Reinhardt in the 1930s), and alternative music. Regarding the band’s name, Catalina said in an interview, “He’s a product of our imagination. In fact, the word in Spanish... ["periné" or "perineo" means “perineum.”] We wanted to make fun of language. People think everything French is very refined but as it turns out, in Latin America there’s so much flavor and diversity and life. We also have a very particular sense of humor.” They’ve had a stellar career with 2 studio albums and in 2015, they won a Latin Grammy Award for Best New Artist. They’ve also been nominated for a Grammy Award (for Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album) and for another Latin Grammy (for Album of the Year).
