Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Maryland's sensational psychedelic funk artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Paradise Rock Club!
Pigeons Playing Ping Pong was formed in Baltimore in 2009 by vocalist and guitarist Greg Ormont, guitarist Jeremy Schon, bassist Ben Carrey, and drummer Dan Schwartz. Greg cites legendary progressive rock/jam band as his biggest influence. He said in an interview, "I grew up in like a classic rock house...when I met my guitarist, he introduced me to Phish and the jam scene and funk...seeing Phish in 2009 was a big turning point in my life because I really saw what live music could do to people and wanted to be part of that as much as possible." Their musical style is best described as a high energy blend of psychedelic funk (a genre - pioneered in the late 1960s by acts like Sly and the Family Stone and George Clinton's Parliament-Funkadelic collective - that combines funk music with elements of psychedelia), rock, and electronica (an umbrella term that encompasses a broad group of electronic based styles such as techno, house, ambient, drum and bass, jungle, and industrial dance, among others). They've had a stellar career with 2 studio albums, 1 extended play, and 1 live album. The band currently consists of Greg (lead vocals and guitar), Jeremy (lead guitar and backing vocals), Ben (bass and backing vocals), and Alex Petropulos (drums).
