Rival Sons, California’s sensational rock and roll artists are bringing their signature sounds to Paradise Rock Club!
The band was formed in Long Beach in 2009 and currently consists of Jay Buchanan (lead vocals, harmonica), Scott Holiday (lead guitar), Mike Miley (drums), and Dave Beste (bass). Their musical style is often compared to blues rock bands from the 1950s-1970s (especially Led Zeppelin, the Animals, and Free) and according to the BBC it’s an “electrifying blend of Led Zeppelin, Free, Bad Company, Deep Purple, the Doors and a dozen others.” Scott brought the band together after his previous band (Black Summer Crush) split up and he persuaded Jay to come on board as the lead singer. They self-released their debut studio album (Before the Fire) in 2009 and it was very well received. Its success led to the Huffing Post proclaiming them the “Rock Band to Watch” and they also got to be the supporting act for AD/DC, Alice Cooper, and Kid Rock that year. The band then self-released an EP in 2010 and it led to a record deal with Earache Records. Their second studio album (Pressure and Time) came out the following year and hit #19 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums chart. The band’s latest studio album (Hollow Bones) was released on 10th June 2016 and topped the aforementioned chart.
