Soulwax were formed in Ghent (Belgium) in 1995 by brothers Stephen and David Dewaele along with bassist Stefaan Van Leuven and drummer Piet Dierickx. The band's been through many line-up changes over the years and it currently consists of Stephen, David, Stefaan, Igor Cavalera, and Laima Cavalera. While their musical style can be broadly classified as electronic, it's best described as a blend of electronic rock (a broad music genre - originating in the late 1960s, when rock bands such as the Doors, Pink Floyd, Yes, and the Moody Blues began incorporating the Moog synthesizer into their sound - that combines rock music and electronic music, featuring instruments typically found within both genres), alternative dance (a genre that blends the melodic song structure of alternative and indie rock with electronic beats, synths and/or samples, and club orientation of post-disco dance music), and dance pop (a fusion of electronic dance music and pop music, with influences of disco, post-disco, new wave, synth-pop, electro-pop, and house). They’ve had a stellar career with 6 studio albums, 2 soundtrack albums, 2 compilation albums, 1 extended play, 15 singles, a DJ Award (for Best Eclectic House DJ), and a Grammy Award nomination (for Best Remixed Recording).
