The Dillinger Escape Plan was formed in Morris Plains (New Jersey) by Ben Weinman, Dimitri Minakakis, Adam Doll, and Chris Pennie. Their named after the early 1930s bank robber John Dillinger, infamous for his multiple jail breaks. The band’s been through many line up changes over the years and it currently consists of Ben (lead guitar, programming, backing vocals, keyboard), Liam Wilson (bass), Greg Puciato (lead vocals), Billy Rymer (drums, percussion), and Kevin Antreassian (rhythm guitar). Their musical style is best described as mathcore; a rhythmically complex and dissonant style of metalcore (which is a fusion of extreme metal and hardcore punk). Mathcore’s salient feature is its use of unusual time signatures and The Dillinger Escape Plan is one of the pioneers of the genre (along with acts such as Converge, Coalesce, Botch, and Candiria). They’ve had a stellar career with 5 studio albums, 1 live album, 1 video album, 12 music videos, 4 extended plays, 7 singles, and 2 collaborative albums with bands Nora and Drowning Man. Their music has also been featured on many compilation and tribute albums such as Black on Black: A Tribute to Black Flag, Converse CONS Compilation - CONS EP Vol. 2, and many more.
