The Get Up Kids, Missouri's sensational emo artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Paradise Rock Club!
The Get Up Kids were formed in Kansas City (Missouri) in 1995 by vocalist/guitarist Matthew Pryor, guitarist/vocalist Jim Suptic, bassist Robert Pope, and drummer Thomas Becker. The band's been through a couple of line up changes over the years and it currently consists of Matt, Jim, Rob, Ryan Pope (drums and percussion) and James Dewees (keyboards). Their musical style is best described as a blend of emo (a loosely categorized rock music genre characterized by expressive and often confessional lyrics), indie rock (a genre of alternative rock that originated in the United States and the United Kingdom in the 1980s, encapsulating the genres chamber pop, indie pop, lo fi, math rock, neo psychedelia, post punk revival, sadcore, and shoegaze), pop punk (a fusion genre that typically combines fast punk rock tempos, power chord changes and loud, distorted electric guitars with pop influenced melodies and lyrical themes), and alternative rock. They’ve had a stellar career with 5 studio albums, 1 live album, 7 extended plays, 5 singles, 5 music videos, and their music has been featured on Another Year on The Streets (Volumes 2 and 3), Rock Against Bush (Volume 1), and many other compilation albums.
