The Growlers, California’s sensational psychedelic rock artists are bringing their signature sounds to Paradise Rock Club!
The band was formed in Dana Point (California) in 2006 but later relocated to Costa Mesa, in Orange County. They went through numerous line-up changes before settling on the core membership of Brooks Nielsen (vocals), Matt Taylor (lead guitar), Scott Montoya (drums), Anthony Braun Perry (bass), and Kyle Straka (keyboards, guitar). They’ve become renowned for their heavy use of effects (voice effects and especially reverb) and they blend late 60’s Californian rock with psychedelia to create unique genre they call Beach Goth. They’ve had a stellar career with 5 studio albums, 6 EPs, and they’ve toured with established acts such as such as The Black Keys, Dr. Dog, Devendra Banhart, Julian Casablancas, and Night Beats. They often employ a great deal of theatricality in their concerts by wearing wigs, make-up, women's dresses and various other props. Since 2012 they’ve been organizing the Beach Goth festival at the Observatory in Santa Ana. It features bands playing a variety of genres like pop, rap, hip hop, heavy metal, rock, and it’s even had costume contests, amusement park rides, and live performances of Rocky Horror Picture Show. Along with The Growlers, bands such as Die Antwoord, Grimes, Mac DeMarco, The Drums, Foxygen, White Arrows, Ghosts, and The Abigails have performed at the festival.
