The Melvins, Washington's sensational doom metal and experimental rock artists re bringing their signature sounds to the Paradise Rock Club!
The Melvins were formed in Montesano (Washington) 1983 by Buzz Osborne (guitar, vocals), Matt Lukin (bass), and Mike Dillard (drums). They were high school friends and they started their musical journey by playing covers of songs by Cream and Jimi Hendrix. Their musical style was influenced by many genres such as punk metal (the music of Black Flag), slow punk (acts like Flipper and the Wipers), hard rock and metal (bands such as Kiss and Alice Cooper). Their style is hard to pin down due to their idiosyncratic approach, bizarre sense of humor, and willingness to try anything when making music. They’re often compared with Black Sabbath but according to Buzz, his guitar playing is more influenced by Black Flag than by Sabbath. They went on to become a significant influence on many bands such as Nirvana (they were favorites of Kurt Cobain), Soundgarden, Green River, Tool, Boris, Noothgrush, Full of Hell, Earth, Sunn O Sunn O))), Mastodon, Neurosis, Eyehategod, and Isis. They’ve had a stellar career with 22 studio albums, 7 live albums, 8 compilation albums, 1 video album, 11 music videos, 6 extended plays, 47 singles, and their work has also been featured on many compilation albums.
