The Zulus, Massachusetts' sensational indie rock artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Paradise Rock Club!
The Zulus were formed in Boston (Massachusetts) in the 1980s by vocalist Larry Bangor, guitarist Rich Gilbert, and drummer Malcolm Travis. While their musical style can be broadly classified as indie rock (a genre of alternative rock that originated in the United States and the United Kingdom in the 1980s, encapsulating the genres chamber pop, indie pop, lo-fi, math rock, neo psychedelia, post punk revival, sadcore, and shoegaze), it's unique in that it draws a wide spectrum of headbangers, art-rockers, post-punks, and even the occasional easy-listener. Larry said in an interview, "I don't feel like we're that unusual as far as our basic manner, our sound, but it's probably a misconception because people seem to be always saying 'You don't fit in any slot.' That's sort of like the kiss of death in the music business. But we're at least counting on a big payoff in the end. When eventually people do notice us for what we are, our uniqueness will be an advantage." They cite influential punk rock band Hüsker Dü (widely regarded as one of the key bands to emerge from the 1980s American indie scene) as a big influence on their sound. They've released 1 studio album.
