Tune-Yards (stylized as tUnE-yArDs) was formed in New England in 2006 and is a duo consisting of Merrill Garbus (vocals, ukulele, and percussion) and Nate Brenner (bass guitar). When on tour, they're joined by Their musical style is best described as a blend of art pop (a loosely defined style of pop music - influenced by pop art and postmodernism's integration of high and low culture – that draws from art theories and other forms of art, such as fine art, fashion, cinema, and avant garde literature), worldbeat (a genre that blends Western pop music or rock music with world music or folk music influences), indie pop (a sub genre of alternative/indie rock originating in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s and differing from indie rock to the extent that it’s more melodic, less abrasive, and relatively angst free), and lo fi (a genre which grew primarily from American underground music scenes in the early 1980s and is associated with artists such as Sebadoh, Pavement, Liz Phair, and Beck). They’ve had a stellar career with 4 studio albums, 1 extended play, 8 singles, and they've collaborated with Citay, Afuche, Elephant and Castle, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and The Blind Boys of Alabama
