Us the Duo are a husband and wife team of Michael and Carissa Alvarado. Michael was born in North Carolina and started to take piano lessons when he was 7. Carissa was born in Los Angeles and began her musical journey at the age of 5 by singing in a church choir. They first met in 2011 on a music video set and got married a year later. A year later, they started to amass a fan following with 6 second cover versions of popular songs uploaded to their Vine account. Their popularity kept growing and it wasn’t long before the record companies came calling. They got a record deal in 2014 and their Vine account now has 5 million followers (and they’ve got over 1.6 million YouTube subscribers). Their musical style falls under the genre folk pop; a style that began to evolve in the early 1960s and consists of folk songs with large, sweeping pop arrangements, or pop songs with intimate, acoustic based folk arrangements. They’ve had a stellar career with 3 studio albums, 1 extended play, and they’ve performed all over the country and in London, Paris, Prague, Rome, and Tokyo.
