Yo La Tengo, New Jersey's sensational indie rock artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Paradise Rock Club!
Yo La Tengo was formed in Hoboken (New Jersey) in 1984 by Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley. The band's been through many line up changes over the years and it currently consists of Ira (lead vocals, guitar, and keyboard), Georgia (drums, percussion, backing vocals, guitar, keyboard, and drum machine), and James McNew (bass, backing vocals, and guitar). Their musical style is best described as a blend of indie rock (a genre of alternative rock that originated in the United States and the United Kingdom in the 1980s, encapsulating the genres chamber pop, indie pop, lo fi, math rock, neo psychedelia, post punk revival, sadcore, and shoegaze), dream pop (a sub genre of alternative rock and neo psychedelia characterized by breathy vocals, introspective or existential lyrics, and a focus on textures and moods rather than propulsive rock riffs), and noise pop (a sub genre of alternative rock - developed in the mid 1980s in the UK and US - that mixes dissonant noise or feedback, or both, with the melodic instrumentation and production elements more often found in pop music, making it more melodic than noise rock). They’ve had a stellar career with 14 studio albums.
