The Wombats were formed in Liverpool (United Kingdom) in by Dan Haggis (drums, percussion, keyboards, guitar, and backing vocals), Tord Øverland Knudsen (bass guitar, keyboards, and backing vocals), and Matthew Murphy (lead vocals, guitar, and keyboards). Their musical style is best described as a blend of new wave (a genre of rock music that moved away from smooth blues and rock and roll sounds to create pop music that incorporated electronic and experimental music, mod, and disco), post punk revival (genre of alternative rock and indie rock that developed in the late 1990s and early 2000s, inspired by the original sounds and aesthetics of garage rock of the 1960s and new wave and post-punk of the 1980s), and indie rock (a genre of alternative rock that originated in the United States and the United Kingdom in the 1980s, encapsulating the genres chamber pop, indie pop, lo fi, math rock, neo psychedelia, post punk revival, sadcore, and shoegaze). They’ve had a stellar career with 3 studio albums (one of which as been certified Platinum in the UK), 4 extended plays, 18 singles, 14 music videos, and a NME Award (for Best Dancefloor Filler). They've also been nominated for a MTV Europe Music Award for Best UK and Ireland New Act.
