Xavier Rudd was born in Torquay (Victoria, Australia) in 1978 and is a singer, songwriter, and multi instrumentalist (guitar, harmonica, yidaki, banjo, lap steel guitar, and percussion). His musical style is best described as a blend of folk, blues, indie folk (a style that arose in the 1990s - among musicians from indie rock scenes influenced by folk music - and is characterized by a blend of acoustic guitar melodies of traditional folk music with contemporary instrumentation), folk rock (a style that arose in the United States and the United Kingdom around the mid 1960s, pioneered by the Los Angeles band the Byrds, who began playing traditional folk music and songs by Bob Dylan with rock instrumentation, in a style heavily influenced by the Beatles and other British bands), and reggae. It also includes socially conscious themes, such as spirituality, humanity, environmentalism and the rights of Aboriginal peoples. He’s had a stellar career with 8 studio albums, 8 live albums, and he’s toured with many renowned artists including Jack Johnson, Dave Matthews, Ben Harper, Good Old War, G. Love and Special Sauce, and Rodrigo y Gabriela. He’s also performed at many major music events such as the Bonnaroo Music Festival, High Sierra, Wakarusa, moe.down, Summer Sonic, Lowlands, and Rock Werchter.
