Nahko Bear, Oregon's sensational world music artist is bringing his signature sounds to the Paradise Rock Club!
Nahko Bear is the frontman of renowned world music collective, Nahko and Medicine for the People. He was born in Oregon and is of Apache, Puerto Rican and Filipino descent. He was adopted by a white American family when he was 9 months old and growing up, he learned to play the classical piano and to sing in church. It wasn't long before he picked up the guitar and he started teaching piano when he was just a teenager. He releases his debut solo album (My Name is Bear) in October 2017 and he describes it as a prequel to his work with Nahko and Medicine for the People. He said in an interview, "It’s where this all began, before this chapter even started. I felt like I needed to retrace my steps before I could move forward. I found my mother when I was 21 years old. The songs on this record are a collection of stories before that time, written between the ages of 18 to 21. They are ripe with the coming of age, first love, psychedelic revelations, youthful recklessness, and lucid dreaming.” The concert also features special guests Christina Holmes along with Cuban indie rock and Spanish soul band 1,000 Fuegos.
